Programming

WLKL, 89.9 FM, is located in the Northwest Building on the campus of Lake Land College. The station is staffed by students enrolled in Radio/TV classes at Lake Land College. WLKL’s primary format is alternative rock, with a touch of 70’s hits from 7:00 – 8:00 am and throwbacks from the 80’s from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Add 4 hours of techno on Saturday nights beginning at 11:00 p.m. and you have WLKL, The Max Alternative.

This 1300 watt station reaches a 25 – 30 mile radius of the Lake Land College campus, providing listeners with up to date news, weather forecasts, Lake Land events, and sports scores. Thanks for listening from the students and staff at WLKL 89.9 FM, the Max Alternative!

Radio/TV Broadcasting Program

The Radio/TV Broadcasting program will prepare students for careers in a number of positions within the field of Broadcast. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of broadcast and sound engineering technicians is projected to grow 8 percent, film and video editors are projected to grow 17 percent, and producers and directors are projected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026.

Program Options

The Radio/TV Broadcasting program is available as an associate in applied science degree. This program is one of Lake Land College’s workforce ready degrees and is designed to move students from college into the workforce in a relatively short time period.  A transfer program can also be designed for students who want to transfer to a university with an emphasis in radio and television.
